Abseiling

If you have a head for heights then Abseiling is a popular activity for the whole family, annd there are a couple of great sites in the Peak District. You can head to Millers Dale where you descend down the 80ft of Millers Dales Bridge, or head to Black Rocks near Cromford. There are lots of multi adventure groups out there which can offer you abseiling days but we recommend the following companies:

Caves & Caving

Caves

Due to the fascinating geological area in the Peak District, visit and learn about these truly amazing natural features. Great activity for kids and when the weather does not cooperate for outdoor activities.​

Poole Cavern. If you fancy yourself as a bit of an explorer, you could also visit the adjacent Poole's Cavern, a 2 million year old, natural limestone cave.

Blue John Cavern The Blue John Cavern at Castleton in the Peak District is world famous. It is home to eight of the fourteen known varieties of Blue John stone, a beautiful and ornamental fluor-spar. 

Speedwell Cavern Take an amazing boat trip 450m under the hills of Castleton to the awesome Bottomless Pit.

Peak Cavern Otherwise known as the 'Devils Arse' this is a great cave which also doubles as a music venue and a cinema. 

Dolomite Training Dolomite Training can take you beyond the usual show caves for a more exciting caving trip which can include underground abseils and climbs. 

Climbing

The unique natural geology of the Peak District is perfect for climbers and we have some interesting and unusually named sites such as Flying Buttress, Christmas Crack, Medusa, Mad Dogs & Englishmen or The Sloth which are all waiting for you to explore! There are lots of experienced climbing instructors out there so why not take a look at the following companies for guidance and instruction.

Water Sports

White Water Rafting,Tandem Orca Kayaking and Tubing through Darley Dale, Matlock on the River Derwent which flows through the beautiful Peak District National Park.

Canoeing, Sailing and Windsurfing at Carsington Water Carsington Water is open all year round and is a hive for activity, you can walk or ride a bike around it, visit the watersports centre, fish or even hire the electric bikes! There is also a lovely restaurant, cafe, shops and a great playground for children. 

Tittesworth Water
 Tittesworth Watersports and Activity Centre is one of the largest independent activity centres in the Staffordshire, based near Leek.

Rudyard Lake  Managed by the Canals & Rovers Trust and situated near Leek is a real hidden treasure with rowing, sailing, trip boats and fishing all available on the waters.

Hunted is for groups of 12 or more and works on a points system. Combining the adventure of a bespoke treasure hunt and the excitement of being Hunted. Finding treasures and evading capture is the aim of the game and will win you and your team valuable points.

Wild Park Derbyshire

Wild Park Derbyshire is an outdoor activity centre and they have numerous things to keep you entertained for a great day out, including Paintballing, Quad Biking, Laser Tag, Archery, Crossbow Shooting and Pistol Shooting. Don't worry if you get wet and dirty, there are changing rooms with hot showers so you can get clean before getting back into the car for either your journey back or going on to somewhere else.

Located just a 20 minute drive away, it is in easy reach from Knockerdown Cottages.
