Accessible Pubs

The Knockerdown is situated across the road from our cottages. It is all on one level and has a disabled toilet also. There is also a lovely beer garden which is also all on one level.

The Bull I' Th' Thorn is a newly renovated pub, pizzeria and sports bar offering authentic Napoléon style pizzas and casual Peak District dining. Please look on their website for all accessible information.

The Miners Arms in Carsington village is a five minute drive from Knockerdown.  They have level access and a fully accessible toilet.

The Duncombe Arms is situated 10 miles from Knockerdown Cottages, in the village of Ellastone.  There are tables available on one level along with a disabled toilet. There is also other tables with some steps to go down to.  There is also a lovely area outside. They recommend you call and discuss your needs to find the best table for you and your party.

The Old Dog at Thorpe is 8 miles approx from Knockerdown Cottages. It is fully accessible for all.

The Cock Inn at Muggington is approx 7 miles from Knockerdown Cottages. It has some level access and they advise that you telephone before arrival so they can allocate you the best table for your needs.

The Royal Oak Hurdlow is 13 miles from here at Knockerdown. It is based at the end of the Tissington Trail.  Some parts of the pub are accessible for wheelchairs. Please mention any mobility issues at the time of booking to give you an appropriate table. They do not have disabled toilets

Callow Hall is 5.5 miles from Knockerdown. They are fully accessible and have a ramp that leads to all public areas around the hotel. For access to the restaurant please follow around to the hotel from the outside and doors will lead to the Garden Room which is on ground floor.

Accessible Cafes and Farm Shops

Herberts Tea Rooms, in Tissington village on the edge of the Tissington Trail, are a lovely cafe that is fully accessible to all. Only a few minutes from Knockerdown and in a very picturesque setting.

Jack Rabbits Cafe in the centre of Ashbourne is a delightful, fully accessible licensed cafe.

Fairways Garden Centre has a lovely cafe on the first floor of the garden centre and is fully accessible with a lift. There are disable toilets on both levels. It is 7 miles from Knockerdown.

Croots Farm Shop is 10 miles from Knockerdown and has fantastic produce and a great little cafe. It is all on one level with a ramp leading up to the door and fully accessible toilets.

Accessible Restaurants

The Mainsail restaurant at Carsington is a couple of minutes drive. There is a footpath but it is not fully accessible. The restaurant can be accessed via a lift from the visitor centre. There are disabled toilets upstairs and downstairs and they also have a Changing Places toilet located in the courtyard. From the restaurant you can enjoy the views over the reservoir. Most of the tracks around Carsington Water are surfaced and suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.  Mobility scooters can be hired from the Severn Trent Water Reception (further info on 03306 780701).

The Lighthouse Restaurant is at Boylestone near Ashbourne. The Lighthouse restaurant provides a fine dining taster menu experience only. They are fully accessible. Pre booking is required. They can offer Vegetarian and Pescatarian alternatives with advanced notice.
